What is the B.R.A.I.N.S. Technique™?
It is an acronym that stands for Bilateral Resolution for the Acute Interrupted Nervous System. “Bilateral” indicates the technique involves both sides of the body. “Resolution” refers to the process where our psyche develops a solution to the stress that triggers our flight, fight, or freeze response. For The “Acute” describes the stress that occurs immediately or within a short time frame—minutes, hours, or a few days after an event. “Interrupted” signifies a sudden disruption in our regular state. “Nervous System” refers to the part of our body affected during stress responses. We apply this technique when stress suddenly disrupts our nervous system, causing a flight, fight, or freeze reaction, to achieve a state that is calm, adaptable, and crucially, conducive to inspired solutions.
How does the B.R.A.I.N.S. Technique™ work?
We are still doing research and need your help! Please check out our research tab. There is increased blood flow in the brain that moves our perspective from tunnel vision to normal vision, seeing options and solutions. Neurotransmitters and your nervous system have a physical change from being in our sympathetic flight/fight/freeze nervous system and switching to our parasympathetic nervous system of rest/digest/heal. By allowing stress to be processed through our emotions, we can dissipate potential triggers that might build up from a stressful experience. Processing our stress quickly reduces the buildup, mitigating the risk of immediate illness and fostering a more resilient and adaptable immune system.
How can I help with the research?
Thank you for asking! Your contribution is invaluable. Once we receive enough surveys with testimonials, we will be able to request grant money and/or work with a university that has the resources to perform biological research on a wide scale. Click on the quick 3 minute survey on the home page. You will then receive a VIP invitation to join us at our next monthly meeting to get your personal questions answered and to discover all the ways you can utilize this technique to enhance your life.

Can this help my loved one in the hospital or my pet?
Yes! For people who can not perform the B.R.A.I.N.S. Technique™, you may employ the alternate bilateral tapping on an accessible body part like their lower legs or arms. Ask them questions that illicit their emotions such as “how are you feeling about being here right now? do you feel worried about the upcoming procedure or test?”. They can answer out loud or to themselves. Match the tapping speed to align with the speed of their emotions or thoughts. After about 3 minutes, slow the tapping down as they visibly calm down. In another few minutes, once they gain new insight or neutrality about their situation, stop tapping.
For pets, let them know they are safe, and gently alternate tap on their sides or their paws if they will allow you to. Watch for signs of their nervous system switching such as yawning, stretching, getting up and shaking, then stop the tapping.
Can I use this for past trauma?
No. The BRAINS Technique ™ process is specifically for acute, sudden stressors that are occurring in the present moment.
If you are managing a past trauma, please refer to EMDR International Organization with a trained psychotherapist.
When living with and healing a past trauma, it is imperative that you have a professional guiding you through the healing process.

Do I need any special equipment?
No special equipment is needed. If you are unable to perform the alternate bilateral tapping that is part of the process as shown in the instructional video, you may ask a caregiver or friend to perform that part of the process.
Can I do this process by myself?
This process was developed for times when we do not have access to a professional, but we need immediate relief due to stress. It is important to find a safe place before employing this technique so the environment encourages your nervous system to be able to shift out of flight/fight/freeze to rest/digest/heal mode. If, after employing this technique, your stress continues to worsen with physical, emotional, or mental symptoms, please see your doctor or therapist immediately. If you are experiencing a life threatening situation, call 911.
Do I need to have my eyes closed?
Yes! And you want to be free from distractions for at least 5 minutes. This is an important part of the process to allow your subconcious/psyche who captured the threat to you to find a solution to the stressor.
Do I have to feel my emotions?
Yes! This is a crucial part of the process as well. The neurotransmitters in your brain need to change to give your body and your sub-concious the message that this stress needs to be addressed immediately. If you are feeling intense overwhelming emotions, set a stopwatch (not a timer) for 5 minutes. After the first 3 minutes you will begin to find relief and feel calmer. Then the last few minutes are for your sub-concious/psyche to find a resolution for the stressor. Each step in this process is crucial and has biological effects on your brain, body, and sub-concious/psyche.
